Your baby will be a little more predictable between 3 and 6 months old, but should be beginning to roll a little bit or
are perhaps beginning to drag themselves along on their stomachs so will be better at interacting with you when you play/entertain them.
Here are a few ideas of what to do in those initial months...
- It’s time to introduce old favourites such as this little piggy went to market and round and round the garden as the tickling sensation will stimulate your baby – and they will be giggling lots too!
- Squeaky toys are good – especially if the baby can squeeze them themselves
- Read books to your baby
- Peek-a-boo with hiding your face, rather than a toy
- Pull your baby to their feet (they will still need supporting but it gets them used to the sensation of being upright)
- You can start to sit your baby up, but they will need supporting as they will not yet have enough strength in their body to go solo
- Talk to your baby and allow them to touch your face
- Sing nursery rhymes
- Tap beats on surfaces and count along – your baby should begin to mimic the rhythm
- Drop objects in front of your baby (not plates! Or anything loud) as they enjoy the motion and sounds
- Show your baby themselves in the mirror and encourage facial expressions
- Use rattles or boxes with rice or cereal in to make noises
