ProsDisposable nappies can be more convenient

  • Convenient – can get them in the local supermarket/shop
  • Disposable aspect makes them easy and time efficient as don’t require washing
  • Light and compact so easy to carry round with you
  • Use polyacrylates which turn into a gel when liquid hits them keeping your baby dry

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Produce a lot of waste each year – most babies use around 5000 nappies before they are toilet trained
    synthetic  chemicals
  • They require unrecycled paper to be made
  • Can take over 200 years to degrade

reusable nappies
Minimize

ProsReusable nappies are much more cost effective

  • Can be put on and removed as easily as disposables these days
  • Cheap (the initial payment is more than disposables, but long term you will save hundreds of pounds)
  • Most are designed to last for at least two babies nappy-life-time
  • Often have replaceable parts so you needn’t change the entire nappy every time
  • Can often get nappy washing services in your area – they will collect, launder and return

Cons

  • Washing nappies means extra energy and water to keep them clean – more if you tumble them
  • They can take longer to put on than a standard disposable
  • You need to front more money as you’ll need most the kit from the word go
  • More difficult to change if you aren’t at home
